The Askomandoura
The askomandoura (a compound word derived from 'asko' which means leather pouch and 'mandoura') is made from oleander wood or 'sfakas', 2 reeds and two 'mandouria'. The leather pouch is either from lamb or goat skin. It resembles the bagpipe. The combination of the two words gives us the instrument?s name 'Askomandoura'.
It is one of the oldest instruments in Crete.
